Life After Yoga Teacher Training: What to Do Next 🌿

You’ve completed your 200-hour yoga teacher training—congratulations! 🎉 You’ve spent weeks immersed in practice, philosophy, and self-discovery. But now you may be asking: “What happens next?”

Whether you dream of teaching or you joined the training for personal growth, your YTT is only the beginning. Here are some practical and inspiring ways to carry your experience forward.

1. Register with Yoga Alliance

If your program was Yoga Alliance–approved, you’re eligible to register as a RYT 200 (Registered Yoga Teacher). This credential isn’t required everywhere, but many studios and gyms look for it when hiring.

  • Head to the Yoga Alliance website

  • Submit your certificate + training hours

  • Pay the registration fee

  • Gain access to teaching opportunities and continuing education

2. Start Teaching (in Your Own Way)

Teaching doesn’t have to mean leading 30 people in a studio. Many new teachers begin by:

  • Offering classes to friends and family

  • Teaching at local gyms or community centers

  • Guiding small groups at home or outdoors

  • Exploring online platforms to reach students globally

Every class you teach builds confidence and helps you find your authentic voice.

3. Keep Practicing and Learning

One of the best ways to integrate your training is to stay a student.

  • Continue taking classes with teachers who inspire you

  • Deepen your personal practice

  • Attend workshops or retreats

  • Explore specialty styles like Yin, Restorative, or Prenatal Yoga

Your growth as a student will make you a stronger, more grounded teacher.

4. Consider Advanced Training (300-Hour or Specialty)

If you loved your 200-hour, you may eventually choose to expand your knowledge with a 300-hour advanced YTT. Together, your 200 + 300 hours add up to RYT 500 certification, which many studios recognize as a higher level of training.

Specialty trainings "YACEP" Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Programs (like trauma-informed yoga or yoga nidra) are also great ways to refine your skills and expand your teaching opportunities.

5. Integrate the Lessons into Daily Life

Even if you don’t teach, your YTT has given you tools that can transform daily living:

  • Start each morning with meditation or breathwork

  • Use yogic philosophy to approach challenges with calm and clarity

  • Apply what you’ve learned about balance, compassion, and mindfulness to relationships and work

Your training is just as much about living yoga as it is about teaching it.

6. Stay Connected with Your Community

The friendships formed during YTT often last a lifetime. Keep in touch with your fellow graduates—you’ll find encouragement, collaboration, and inspiration through your shared journey.

Many of our alumni create study groups, plan reunions, or even collaborate to host classes and retreats together.

✨ Final Thoughts
